Summer Wrap Up!

Posted by: yahsuan on August 20, 2010 18:25

WOW! Has summer already come and gone? We had an incredible summer media camp this year, with so many amazing students and some excellent new media productions for this summer's Zoom In 18: Youth Health. Student work includes a soundtrack to BAYCAT's upcoming film "The Invisible City", some hilarious skits and animations, and some news pieces about our community partners like Literacy for Environmental Justice and the

3rd Street Youth Center.

Spring's Zoom In 17: Conversations about Race

Posted by: yahsuan on May 19, 2010 23:58

BAYCAT's Spring 2010 media classes worked hard to create a provocative new Zoom In episode "Conversations about Race". What does 'race' mean to you? Though there are no easy answers, this Zoom In episode offers many youth perspectives about race, stereotypes and the divide between another's external perceptions and our internal worlds.

This episode was produced with BAYCAT offsite classes at Mission High School and

Thurgood Marshall Academic High School.

Welcome to this spring's Digital TV Production Course!

We'll be jumping in today with getting to know the Mac environment. For those of you who are returning to the class, you can take your Mac and Photoshop skills another step further. For those that are just beginning, we'll be looking at folder hierarchy and some tools within Photoshop.

We'll be creating a digital portrait for the classroom. We'll work with Layers, the Lasso Tool, Editing and Copying, and the Brush tool. Advanced students can experiment with the different layer effects.

You'll create a digital portrait like this:
