Academy Coordinator

Full-Time, Permanent Position, Non-Exempt 

Compensation Range: $25-$27/hour DOE + benefits

BAYCAT is an innovative nonprofit media production company comprising a professional Studio and a youth Academy. Our work addresses racial, gender and economic inequities in the media industry by building equitable pathways to employment for diverse storytellers. Through the education and employment of aspiring young Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, transgender, and non-binary mediamakers in the Bay Area — and through our production work for socially-minded clients — we are changing the stories that get shared with the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Academy Manager and Community Liaison, the Academy Coordinator is responsible for supporting digital media programs serving diverse youth and young adults including: program coordination, community outreach and family support, COVID compliance, curriculum support and daily operations. BAYCAT Academy includes our youth digital media arts education programs and professional young adult media job training programs.

Coordinate Digital Media Education Programs Serving Youth and Young Adults

  • Provide support to young adult Studio interns and youth.

  • Execute a recruitment plan, carry out outreach activities; e.g. facilitate in-person recruitment events and visit schools, print fliers, present recruitment video/powerpoint.

  • Communicate and coordinate with visitors to BAYCAT including community partners, guest speakers and volunteers.

  • Work closely with Development and Academy teams to ensure that all government grant reports are properly catalogued and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Create and properly store hard copies and digital copies of contracts, participant files, and government forms for programs. 

  • Manage the use and maintenance of the physical & virtual Academy program space. 

  • Foster relationships with schools, other youth serving public agencies, creative agencies and other community organizations to enhance BAYCAT’s programming.

  • Work with the Academy managers & Academy team to develop & implement future programs and partnerships.

  • Connect with alumni regularly and track their growth within the media industry.

  • Offer support with job searches and connecting with employers seeking entry-level people.

  • Coordinate and support formal 3, 6, and 12 month check-ins with alumni for OEWD reporting purposes

  • Manage the general BAYCAT email inbox, passing along emails to respective departments and fielding general questions.

  • Coordinate with young adults as well as youth and their families for laptop and material pick ups.

  • Coordinate and execute other Academy programming tasks as needed.

COVID Compliance and Safety Policy Implementation for Programming

  • Attend external COVID safety protocol meetings and share relevant updates with the larger BAYCAT team.

  • Implement BAYCAT’s COVID compliance policy for all the site programming including:

    • Checking in program participants and tracking COVID symptoms.

    • Setting up the work and lunch time space

    • Be the BAYCAT lead for implementing proper mask usage, supply ordering, and COVID compliance on Academy shoots.

  • Is knowledgeable of current trends in media, the demands of the professional field, and of the tools, technologies, and resources inherent to the discipline.

THE DETAILS

  • This is a permanent full-time hourly wage position. 

  • Compensation is $25-$27/hour DOE + benefits.

  • Benefits include: Medical insurance paid 85% by BAYCAT, dental and LTD/Life insurance paid 100% by BAYCAT, annual wellness stipend, home office setup stipend, monthly internet reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), annual professional development stipend, 4 personal days off per year, 15 holidays per year, 2.5 weeks accrued vacation to start, 8 days accrued sick time, paid 30 min lunch, no meeting Fridays 

  • Location: This role will be primarily an in person role onsite at our San Francisco, CA location, with the occasional flexibility to work from home.

  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week. BAYCAT observes a meeting-free Friday and encourages all team members to use Fridays to catch up on work as needed.
