Media Producer & Mentor

BAYCAT is an innovative nonprofit media production company comprising a Studio and an Academy which exists to end racial, gender, and economic inequities by opening the media industry to underrepresented storytellers. Through the education and employment of low-income BIPOC young people, and young women in the Bay Area — and through our production work for socially-minded clients — we are changing the storytellers and stories that get shared with the world.

We’re looking for a passionate, creative, and resourceful media producer to lead our youth programming. This role is responsible for planning and facilitating our film classes, internship, and community workshops serving underrepresented youth 11-18 years old. This is an opportunity to grow our media production training programs and change the face of the creative industry while producing media that matters.


Plan and Implement Filmmaking Youth Programming

  • Lead project manager and instructor for all youth film programs.

  • Facilitate lesson plans and activities that promote media literacy and filmmaking fundamentals

  • Collaborate and incorporate key Academy and Studio team members in the training and professional development.

  • Establish positive relationships with youth, parents, interns and program partners

  • Document day-to-day activities including attendance.

  • Assist with field trip coordination.

  • Submit films to film festivals.

  • Supervise Assistant Media Mentor, youth interns, and youth teaching assistants.

  • Manage, organize and archive project media

  • Develop, build and maintain relationships with community partners.

  • Provide a collaborative, culturally responsive learning environment.

Develop & Produce Content

  • Develop and project manage content creation that would serve as training opportunities for youth.

  • Provide leadership and collaboration on a project-by-project basis that includes creative development, creating a framework and coordinating with other BAYCAT team members.

Provide Mentorship & Employment Support

  • Use your passion for media diversity to act as a role model and mentor, establishing positive relationships with our Academy participants.

  • Secure media industry exposure opportunities such as guest speakers.

Prioritize Collaboration & Team Building 

  • Collaborate with BAYCAT team members to continue to build an anti-racist BAYCAT culture and practices.

  • Engage and lead BAYCAT team building activities, which may include team meetings, retreats, Culture Club and other team-related gatherings.

  • Reflect and engage in your own anti-racist journey and professional development individually and with the team.



  • Has professional experience in video production. 

  • Has worked with young people in some capacity and loves teaching people new skills.

  • Is detailed oriented and a strong project manager. 

  • Would have a creative approach to teaching and a warm, patient demeanor.

  • Is knowledgeable of current trends in media, the demands of the professional field, and of the tools, technologies, and resources inherent to the discipline.

  • Passion for using media as a tool to create positive community impact.

  • Is a fierce team player.

  • This is a permanent full-time salaried position.
