Fall 2024 Lead Internship Instructor

Type: Part-Time, Temporary, Hourly

Location: Dogpatch, San Francisco (In-office during programming)  

Reports to:  Associate Director of Education

Compensation Range:  $35/hour (up to 32 hours per week)

Interviews: September 4th - 13th, 2024 (Initial virtual interview, followed by an instructional demo interview)

Offer By (Projected): September 16th, 2024

Start date: October 1st, 2024

End date: Late November 2024 (before Thanksgiving)

Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 9am-5pm

BAYCAT is seeking a Lead Internship Instructor to plan and teach curriculum, facilitating the learning experience for our Fall Internship Program. This role is designed for someone passionate about empowering emerging media artists and film professionals, particularly creatives of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, women-identified, and gender non-conforming participants aged 18 and older. The Lead Instructor will collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Education, the Academy Team, and the BAYCAT Studio team.

Program Dates: Monday October 7th, 2024 - Thursday November 7th, 2024

Meeting Days & Time: Monday - Thursday, 10am-3pm

Number of Interns: 6 - 8

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruction & Guidance: Lead the technical and soft-skill learning for interns in collaboration with the Academy and Studio teams, drawing upon at least 2 years of experience in film/media arts education or workforce development.

  • Curriculum Development: create and adapt daily lesson plans, with the support of Associate Director of Education, utilizing BAYCAT planning templates 

  • Expectation Setting & Feedback: Clearly communicate program learning outcomes, provide timely and documented feedback based on participants’ performance.

  • Demonstrate Film/media Industry Know-How: Collaborate with Studio to find opportunities to incorporate industry standard best practices into the internship experience.

  • Offer career guidance to participants, grounded in personal experience and drawing from one’s own creative network of media arts and film professionals and the BAYCAT community 

  • Arrange and curate external opportunities for learning, with the support of the AD of Community Engagement and BAYCAT Studio Team, including guest speakers and off site learning opportunities. 

  • Facilitate community building by leading community circle and reflection circle amongst the interns; encourage participants to engage in building mutually productive working relationships with one another and to resolve conflict over creative and personal differences in a direct and timely manner

  • Provide mentorship. Establish positive and productive relationships with program participants and offer support in their career development and exploration, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Reporting & Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely reporting of participant data, including enrollment, paperwork, and case notes in the Workforce Central portal, as required by our funding partners.

  • Provide oversight of interns’ hours and work, supporting them with time management, and holding them accountability to their schedules and accurate time keeping.

  • Arrange and facilitate group and individual technical skill workshops such as professional camera use (Canon C100, DSLRs), basic editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, and audio recording, by leading or arranging BAYCAT Studio to lead them. 

  • Oversee and ensure intern responsible use of resources: Support with coordination of gear, tech and space use, work with the Videographer and Production technician prep gear for workshops and participant practice. Report and arrange for repairs and upgrades as needed. 

  • Provide timely and consistent feedback in the form of individualized cases notes, via 1:1 check-ins, and notes on portfolio development for each participant.

  • Support planning and organization of Internship Showcase, with the support of Interns and BAYCAT staff, creating and disseminating script and digital assets for the event, prepping and rehearsing with the interns, and organizing the run-of-show.
