Our work addresses racial, gender and economic inequities in the media industry by building equitable pathways to employment for diverse storytellers. Through the education and employment of aspiring young Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, transgender and non-binary media makers in the Bay Area — and through our production work for socially-minded clients — we are changing the stories that get shared with the world.

THE ROLE
We are in search of a Lead Creative Producer to lead our Studio creative team and to grow and develop the social impact of BAYCAT Studio. This person would manage, mentor and hire Studio team members, contractors and interns while bringing and growing a network of LGBTQ+, women, and creatives of color. This person would work closely with the Lead Producer & CEO on strategic planning, manage the Studio’s department budget and be responsible for creative integrity of our storytelling process and projects.

What that looks like:
BAYCAT Studio Strategy Development & Implementation

Lead Studio creative visionary, providing a structure and process for work to be completed efficiently

In partnership with the Senior Producer and CEO, develop a long-term organizational strategy that will ensure Studio has the people, processes, efficiency and technology in place to meet revenue growth goals

Supervises a team of 1-3 associate creative producers and an ongoing network of contractors
-
Collaborates closely with Production Supervisor and Post Production Manager

Oversees all studio projects creative oversight, reviewing shot lists, developing concept decks, and working closely with key creatives in conjunction with work plans and timelines set by Production Supervisor and Studio team

Potential on-set duties to step in as Director or Producer

Keep the creatives and larger Studio team up to date on industry standard protocol, workflows and processes
Content Creation Integrity & Services Delivery Oversight

In partnership with the Senior Producer and CEO, create a long-term Studio capacity building roadmap
-
Oversee Studio services delivery, ensuring creative integrity, high quality and alignment with industry standards throughout the production process until delivery

In collaboration with the Lead Producer, manage, develop and pitch proposals and contracts to prospective clients and partners at all levels
-
Manage client correspondence: communication, intake, onboarding and collaboration processes to build future collaboration opportunities

Research and generate original story leads and narrative structure

Develop project management processes to ensure the effective coordination and integration of programs, productions and resources; manage Studio teams implementation of process

Collaborate with production and post production leads to maintain creative concept and vision throughout the process.

Be a sounding board for producers, providing feedback on production work plans and media rough cut reviews

Be on set as needed for large scale projects to provide quality control and mentorship

Collaborate with the Academy Team & Mentors to support with Studio Internship Program activities

Demonstrates experience in a relevant field (film production, TV, in-house, agency, media, publishing, editorial)
Relationship Development, Client Management & Revenue Development

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, donors and employers on behalf of the Studio and organization

Gather leads and prospective clients, donors and employers and manage Studio inquiries and leads
-
Develop ongoing prospects of potential partnerships with influencers, corporations, media production companies, nonprofits, small businesses, freelancers and change makers in media and digital media production.

Cultivate, negotiate and finalize revenue-generating opportunities for BAYCAT Studio and BAYCAT

Collaborate with BAYCAT team to deepen multi-layered relationships
Team Management & Development

Acts as lead motivator to keep the team inspired, focused and accountable – making sure projects are executed efficiently, professionally and on time

Cultivate a culture of learning and feedback, facilitating reflections and making space for professional development
Mentorship

Mentors Studio team members and interns and support training efforts for new hires

Assist with hiring interns, onboarding and assigning them to projects
Collaboration & Team Building

Collaborate with BAYCAT team members to continue to build an anti-racist BAYCAT culture and practices

Engage and lead BAYCAT team building activities, which may include team meetings, Studio team sync up meetings, retreats, Culture Club and other team-related gatherings

Reflect and engage in your own anti-racist journey and professional development individually and with the team
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:

Has worked as a Lead producer or equivalent at an agency or production company for 4-5 or more years.

Has a strong visual eye and is experienced in various aspects of media production (behind-the-camera experience is a huge plus, though not required!)

Is passionate about BAYCAT’s mission and the value of equity, diversity and inclusion within the filmmaking and media landscapes.

This is a permanent full-time salaried position.

Compensation range: $85,000/year + benefits
-
BAYCAT is committed to paying competitive wages. Because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate in an effort to increase transparency and equity. We will make our best offer, and it will be the same regardless of the candidate.

This position meets the exemption requirements as defined by state and federal law. Exempt employees are paid on a salaried basis, and their salary is intended to constitute their entire regular compensation, regardless of the number of hours they work; therefore, exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay.

Location: This role will be a hybrid role, which means the opportunity to work remotely part time and to be onsite at our San Francisco, CA location or on site for production as needed.

Must be able to work 40 hours per week. BAYCAT observes a meeting-free Friday and encourages all team members to use Fridays to catch up on work as needed.

Paid Time Off → Regular (Permanent) employees are eligible for different paid time off types and accrual rates, which includes sick leave, vacation time, holidays, and personal days.

You accrue 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked with a max accrual of 200 hrs.

Each calendar year you are able to take 4 “Personal Days”.

In your first 2 years you will accrue 12 days of vacation time a year with a max of 18 days.

Health Plan → Kaiser Permanente Plan - BAYCAT covers 85% of the premium.

Employees are responsible for 100% of the premium cost for health coverage elected for an employee’s dependents and their spouse/domestic partner. The employee’s share of the premium cost may be paid through payroll deduction on a before-tax basis.

Alternative Health Coverage → If you opt-out of the BAYCAT health plan there is a taxable increase in wages (currently $204.19 per pay period), intended for use on health care premiums or expenses.

Dental Plan → BAYCAT offers dental benefits provided by MetLife and covers 100% of the premium costs for employees.

Vision Plan → BAYCAT offers vision benefits provided by MetLife and covers 100% of the premium costs for employees.

Retirement Plan → BAYCAT offers a 403(b) retirement plan through Vanguard to provide employees the potential for future financial security. BAYCAT does not offer a match at this time.

Professional Development→ BAYCAT offers coverage for education expenses of up to $300 per calendar year. This benefit is intended to cover education reasonably related to BAYCAT’s mission or needs.

Wellness Support → BAYCAT offers its regular employees working 24 hours or more per week wellness support (An additional $60 per month will be added to your pay).

Internet Stipend → BAYCAT offers its regular employees working 24 hours or more per week an internet stipend of $25 per month while we shelter in place and work remotely.
