BAYCAT is an innovative nonprofit media production company comprising a Studio and an Academy which exists to end racial, gender, and economic inequities by opening the media industry to underrepresented storytellers. Through the education and employment of low-income BIPOC young people, and young women in the Bay Area — and through our production work for socially-minded clients — we are changing the storytellers and stories that get shared with the world.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for an experienced producer and manager of creative teams to guide and inspire our team of content creators, provide strategic and creative direction, and secure new clients and partnerships. This is an opportunity to help grow our Studio and to produce and distribute media that matters.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

Lead Our Content & Studio Strategy Implementation 

  • In partnership with the Executive Director and President & CEO, develop a long-term organizational strategy and set income goals. 

  • Lead content strategy development and long term planning.

  • Develop vision for Studio’s place in the future of creative media, lead team on changing approaches and tech, as well as anticipating client needs both currently and ongoing.

Provide Creative Direction & Ensure Content Quality 

  • Implement creative development strategies. 

  • Ensure production meets the goals of our stakeholders, executed professionally and the final product is high quality.

  • Provide direction and supervision to the Studio Director, Creative Producers, Head of Production, Production Coordinator,  Video Producers, and other contracted team members.

Grow Our Revenue

  • Prospect, build and maintain strong relationships with clients, donors and employers on behalf of the Studio and organization.

  • Develop ongoing partnerships with influencers, corporations, media production companies, nonprofits, small businesses, freelancers and change makers in media and digital media  production.

  • Collaborate with leadership and Development and Academy Teams to strategize and cultivate multi-faceted deep relationships to bring a diverse revenue pool to BAYCAT. 

Inspire, Mentor, and Develop Content/Creative Teams

  • Keep the team inspired, focused and accountable. 

  • Cultivate a culture of learning and feedback, facilitating reflections and making space for professional development. 

  • Support team hiring, promotion, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.

  • Act as a mentor to interns, apprentices, team members and support training efforts.

Prioritize Collaboration & Team Building 

  • Collaborate with BAYCAT team members to continue to build an antiracist BAYCAT culture and practices.

  • Engage and lead BAYCAT team building activities, which may include team meetings, Studio team sync up meetings, retreats, Culture Club and other team-related gatherings.

  • Reflect and engage in your own antiracist journey and professional development individually and with the team.

 

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:

  • Has worked as an executive producer, senior producer or equivalent at an agency or production company for 3 or more years. 

  • Is an effective but humanistic leader that can motivate a team, build trust, listen, and be flexible.

  • Practices emotionally intelligent communication.

  • Is extremely resourceful and creative.

  • LOVES strategy.

  • Is highly proficient with video pre-production workflow and/or narrative filmmaking.

  • Detailed-minded with the ability to prioritize and problem solve.

  • Is a team player who excels in nourishing collaborative processes.

  • Passionate about media representation.

 

THE DETAILS

  • This is a permanent full-time salaried position. 

  • This role includes benefits.

  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week.
